Heuristic-Based Model for Groceries Shopping Navigator

Project Description :

Nowadays, people love to shop their groceries needs in the supermarket because it can give more experiences and excitements to them. This is due to the concept applied in the supermarket and the facilities installed in the supermarket. Eventually, the size of the supermarket nowadays has become bigger and bigger in order to provide all the products demanded by the customer. The size of the supermarket has made the customers difficult to find the products. The customers, especially the busy scheduled people, are unable to find their listed groceries products because they do not know which shelf their products are located. Thus, this research proposed a system, SHONA, that is able to give the optimal sequence of shelfs to be visited by the customer and the total estimated shopping time so that the user can plan their shopping task early. The objective of this system is to identify the best sequence of shelves to be visited by the user during their groceries shopping period. Genetic algorithm was employed and implemented in a web based platform that compatible with other devices such as smartphones and tablets. Thus, this system is able to minimize the shopping time by identifying the most optimal order of shelves inside the supermarket that need to be visited by the customer who do not have much time to find the location of their desired products inside the supermarket. From our findings, we found that the combination between order one crossover and inverse mutation has produced a better optimal result which is the minimal total of groceries shopping time. The results gave a good comparison between the changed parameter tuning in order to determine which parameter can produced a better result. Even though it is still new, the system can be reliable to the shoppers since it has shown amazing results during testing part. In the future, we planned to upgrade our system in order to solve multi-objective optimization problem. Then, we planned to develop the system in the mobile apps which can visualize the results during the navigation process in order to assist the shoppers to shop their groceries at ease.
